Netflix's Love, Death & Robots: All 18 Episodes, Ranked Worst To Best
15. Good Hunting
The son of a spirit hunter forges a bond with a shape-shifting huli jing.
The story of Good Hunting is far superior to the way in which it’s told. The tale is a beautiful one that touches on themes of love, revenge, and acceptance. Japanese animation is such an important part of the media that it’s surprising Good Hunting is the only one with Asian settings and tones, but at least it was included.
Steam-punk pops it’s head in for an appreciated moment as steam-cyborgs and trains become more of a central plot device. A prime example of how 2D animation hinders nothing if the story is satisfactory.
Good Hunting is one of the few that isn’t just a scene but sagas a whole relationship and feels purposefully complete. The short starts off breaking hearts and ends mending them back together.
