Netflix's Love, Death & Robots: All 18 Episodes, Ranked Worst To Best
16. Fish Night
After their car breaks down in the desert, two salesmen take a dreamlike voyage to the dawn of time.
Fish Night is actually quite average, save for the final minute. The animation is nothing to marvel at, the rapport between the two characters is far from fleshed out, and the plot is loose, but luckily none of that matters as it’s all a vehicle to demonstrate the animator’s vision. And damn their vision is, well, visionary.
The final minute is point blank beautiful and features some of the most creative animation in the show. It’s a shame the gorgeous scenery couldn’t have accompanied a more interesting short, but with one of the shorter run-times of the program, it’s understandable why it was hard to become emotionally attached.
2D animation can be more than sufficient if the story is compelling, but when it’s not the whole thing feels uninspired. Again, the first six of the seven minutes, at least.
