With Mulder and Scully now officially together, can we please end the war between "shippers" and "noromos" and move on to more important things? For some fans, the question of "will they or won't they?", or more accurately," should they or shouldn't they?" became the overall question of the series, rather than whether aliens really existed, or if the truth was really out there. It turned the show into a paranormal Moonlighting, and while great as a subplot, it sadly overshadowed the groundbreaking work the show did elsewhere. In short, many fans became fanatical in their love or hate of the MSR (Mulder-Scully Relationship) to the point that websites were set up on either side of the battle line to promote specific points of view. Message boards were overrun by full-on flame wars. Take a side and be attacked by the other. It was a black eye for X-philes (what fans of the show were referred to as). There's no question that fan interest in the relationship benefited the show in its early years, but trying to recreate it would fail, because it was something that was never planned and happened naturally. Further, by the end, even many a shipper had become tired of the romance. Mulder and Scully are together, it's done, and trying to recreate this in new characters would seem too artificial and heavy-handed.
