Obi-Wan Kenobi Part IV Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs
3. It Feels Like Classic Star Wars
As rushed and underdeveloped as Part IV is as a whole, it's hard to fault it for the way it pays homage to the original trilogy, mainly A New Hope.
Watching Obi-Wan wander through the fortress, avoiding stormtrooper patrols whilst committing himself to a mission of grave importance, is a striking call-back to the film that started it all, in which the old Jedi master moved through the Death Star just before meeting his end.
The adventurous tone, too, leaves it feeling like a sequence from earlier films, full of tension and brief but exciting violence.
It's not only the original trilogy that gets referenced in Part IV, though: The Inquisitor base, Fortress Inquisitorius, is heavily featured in the last mission of the canon game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, in which Cal Kestis and Cere Junda escaped Vader's clutches by the skin of their teeth.
These call-backs serve as a nice reminder that fan service is allowed to be subtle. In fact, it works better that way.
