Obi-Wan Kenobi Part IV Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

2. The Opening Obi-Wan/Vader Parallels

As noted earlier, the epic, one-sided clash between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader gets frustratingly little focus this week, save for its promising opening sequence.

Burned and beaten, Obi-Wan is placed in a bacta tank to heal, during which he remembers the fight and becomes so pained he wakes himself up. At the same time, Vader also wades in a tank, and the music reflects the fact that his feelings toward their meeting are much more sinister and gleeful.

It's a discomforting opening, exploring Obi-Wan's fear and Vader's anger, whilst hinting that they're both now reconnected through the Force.

In fact, considering how powerful a sequence it is, it's a wonder the episode never touches on it again. The potential is awesome, and squandered.
