Obi-Wan Kenobi Part VI Review: 9 Ups & 1 Down
5. All The Returning Faces & Easter Eggs
They've been a great many easter eggs scattered throughout Kenobi's run, but no episode has featured more than Part VI, which finally gives audiences a chance to hear Obi-Wan say "Hello, there" for the first time in seventeen years, and brings back not one but two unexpected and iconic franchise favourites.
In the episode's closing moments, Ian McDiarmid makes an excellent cameo as Darth Sidious, who makes sure Vader's obsession with Obi-Wan doesn't overwhelm him, and - even more shockingly - Liam Neeson returns as Qui-Gon Jinn's force ghost, prepared to give Obi-Wan a new journey.
Seeing these two back is simply exhilarating, for old and new fans alike, and what's more is that neither of them feel forced-in as fan service for fan service's sake; their appearance means something, and lead somewhere.
Part VI also comes with one of the Star Wars' franchise's most haunting call-backs, in which Obi-Wan destroys Vader's mask in a scene horrifically reminiscent of Ahsoka's actions in Rebels. It's a stark and powerful contrast, both working together to highlight the tragedy of Anakin's downfall in front of his two closest friends.
On a subtler note, Obi-Wan calls Vader "Darth" as their battle draws to a close, much like he did before his death in A New Hope, bringing their relationship full circle.
