Only Fools And Horses: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

6. Season 5

Only Fools And Horses
BBC

This was set to be the final season, and it shows as the formula that had worked for the four prior seasons had now become stale. The only reason the series continued after this was David Jason agreeing to stay in the role of Derek after previously announcing he would leave.

The comedic writing was dwindling throughout this series with not as many notable moments of belly laughter, and it was the beginnings of making Derek, who was the kind of loveable rogue that you want to see succeed, turn into someone thoroughly unlikeable in the way's he would continuously take advantage of his brother for his money-making schemes (something that would reach it's nadir in the '86 Christmas special). In contrast though, Rodney and Albert were given more comedic spotlight because of this.

It wasn't all bad, as some of the dramatic writing was certainly improving, with Rodney pleading Del not to go to Australia with an old business partner, and Del helping a young man in trouble while trying to rob a supermarket. However, once again the laughs were somewhat lacking despite some of the traditional legendary moments Only Fools was famous for, like Derek's trip on a hang-glider.
