Orange Is The New Black Season 5 Review: 7 Ups And 4 Downs

Orange is the New Black Nazis
Netflix

It's a welcome change to see new truces and alliances after the racial tensions from the previous season. Some of them are short-term and break up easily, but the show gives a relative simple answer to racism: it's just impossible in certain circumstances. A situation like the one in the series influences the perception of race - or rather lack thereof - among the prisoners.

In the season the Nazis ran a coffee shop with the Latinas and bond so strongly that they are the last inmates willing to defend their turf. Other notable interracial bonds include Red doing amphetamine with Blanca, and Gloria smoking weed with Frieda. Conflict might be the driving force of stories, but all in all, it was good to see the girls come together. Things tend to go that way when you care about the characters more than about the story itself.
