Retta did such an excellent job with this role, and that is evident from the fact that she started as a supporting character but eventually rose to prominence and received a great slot on the show. Donna had a ton of personality and was quick to find the humour in any situation. Thanks to this, she became one of the most likeable parts of the series.

There are still some drawbacks to Donna's part thanks to her original position on the card. Despite her strong presence towards the latter end of the series, Donna still felt like a side character who was moved higher. She never truly was able to escape this feeling of irrelevance as she was very rarely an active participant in the overarching narrative of each episode or the show as a whole.

Despite her feeling like a supporting role, she was a continually pleasant presence. Donna could be charming and endearing, but also rude and sarcastic - no matter what she was going for, though, it always worked.
