This performance from Aubrey Plaza ended up generating an iconic character, unlike any other that we have seen on TV before or since. The role was full of highlights and some more unsavoury aspects, but, unlike Tom, April was charming enough to make the less desirable parts of her personality work.

April Ludgate started as the intern of the department, and was grumpy, youthful and full of resentment for the world and her work. Eventually, she developed into a well-rounded participant in Pawnee's government legislation and finally found her dream job. But in regards to her character, she was still grumpy, youthful and full of resentment.

Her presence was ever charming as she would walk the line between miserable and caring so finely. Her more stand-offish personality made those moments where her barriers broke down even more meaningful, and watching her grow through the series was incredibly emotional, as it was like watching a girl turn into a woman before our eyes.

Although she could be mean and abrasive, April was always hilarious and loveable.
