Mark is the quintessential down on his luck sap. From accidentally proposing to his girlfriend Sophie, to marrying her out of sheer cowardice - "It's done now Soph, we're over the hump" - Mark is a man who will do anything for a quiet life. Since Mark got with Dobbie, it seemed that he was heading for the happy life he wanted, but with her suddenly having a thing for Jez (something that is reciprocated in a manner only Jeremy can manage) and putting off moving in with Mark, things haven't been going so smoothly. Following (another) ill-fated trip to the Quantocks, Dobbie leaves Mark to go to New York. It's not clear yet whether Isy Suttie will return to play Dobbie, the actress confirmed last year she has yet to find out. Our money would be on Mark moving out to New York to be with her. Whether this works out is doubtful, but for Mark's sake we'd love to see some closure for him. Mark is a character that's easy to love and easy to root for and it's about time the writer's finally gave him some form of peace, even if it isn't with Dobbie. Let's just hope he doesn't end up with Soph again, it didn't end well last time.
