8. Higher Production Value
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD8qvpMw8Vw An improvement more in the technical and behind-the-scenes department was the enhanced production value given to Person of Interest this season, as they were able to accomplish a substantial amount more than the previous season, including promoting Amy Acker and Sarah Shahi from recurring guest stars to series regulars. Everything from the cinematography to visual effects was very impressive throughout the season, significantly raising the quality of the show overall by creating exciting action pieces and interesting set designs. One aspect of the show which benefited the most from this was, as mentioned, the cinematography. The camerawork was noticeably much better than the previous season, especially during this seasons action scenes. Perhaps the most impressive bit of cinematography came from the intro of The Devils Share where all the characters deal with the fallout of Detective Carters death. Absolutely no dialogue is spoken as Johnny Cashs Hurt cover plays in its entirety over her funeral and the POI team set out to apprehend her killer afterwards. The scene magnificently shows rather than tells what they are feeling, culminating in Reese ramming into an SUV as the camera switches to an interior perspective, showcasing the chaos within the car as it flips end over end multiple times. It is also perhaps Reeses coldest moment on the series to date as he wordlessly leaves the thugs to die in the burning SUV at the close of Cashs song. Though Season 3 continued to give stellar action or character-driven sequences, none topped this one.
