Picard - 10 Essential Seven Of Nine Star Trek Episodes

2. Seven's Son - Drone

Seven Of Nine Picard
CBS

'You are hurting me'

Never had Seven sounded so human, so fragile and so fearful. In this fifth season episode, Seven's nanoprobes are accidentally fused with the Doctor's mobile emitter, resulting in the creation of a Borg drone with 29th century technology. Initially the crew are rightfully wary and Seven has the task of educating it. Under her care, the drone begins to assume individuality, even naming itself 'One'.

Seven had up to this point been the black sheep of the Voyager family. Though she tried to fit in, her struggles kept her largely separate from most of the crew. However, she now had someone to care for and to mentor. The change that comes over her is a general softening, allowing her love for One to grow.

And then, as they had for everything in her life, the Borg destroy it for her. They arrive in search of One, attempting to assimilate him. Though he manages to overcome them, he suffers fatal injuries and refuses to let the Doctor help him. Seven watches One sacrifice himself to save the Voyager crew, a character trait he learned from Seven herself.

'You are hurting me,' she tells him.

'You will adapt,' he replies.
