One of the biggest changes made between the Preacher comic and TV show is making Tulip OHare, Jesse Custers love interest throughout the original series, a black woman. In the comics, shes an expert marksman and Jesses one true love, who dies briefly before being brought back, and has an ill-advised fling with Cassidy when she believes Custers dead. In the comics shes a classically blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty with all the usual proportions, albeit with a filthy mouth on her than the platonic ideal of a shrinking violet. In the TV show, meanwhile, shes set to be played by Ruth Negga, best known for small roles in World War Z, Agents Of SHIELD and 12 Years A Slave. Negga is a brilliant actress, and casting Tulip as a woman of colour in a series thats mostly set across the American South - with the characters getting into enough trouble with ignorant locals thanks to their enlightened views of religion - may provide an extra wrinkle for exploring the prejudices of the modern United States.
