Once upon a time, the channel whose acronym stands for American Movie Classics just aired that - crappy old movies no other network could be bothered paying the licence for. That all changed when Matthew Weiner, having being rejected by all the other major cable networks, brought to them the pilot script for Mad Men. Nowadays, AMCs name is about as appropriate as MTVs, considering the amount of time spent on original programming compared to films. Mad Men kick-started their run of hit shows that continued with The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad, followed by the successful spin-offs of both shows. Whilst on paper HBO seemed the ideal home for Preacher, AMC might be an even better fit. They have the budget, they have the track record (setting aside Low Winter Sun for a moment), and they have a wider audience. And as Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead show, theyre not averse to the darker side of human nature or buckets of gore.
