4. The Watchers On The Wall (Season 4, Episode 9)
Despite being one of the two expected battles in Game of Thrones, the wildling assault on Castle Black met its high expectations, and was reminiscent of the Battle of Helms Deep in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. There was a lot going on, and kudos to director Neil Marshall, who also directed Blackwater, for being able to capture it all. We saw Sams bravery in the wake of Janos Slynts cowardice, the last look between Jon and Ygrette before that punk Olly put an arrow through her, Edds unexpected leadership, and Grenns sacrifice, among many others. All in all, it was the most action-packed episode of all 50 of the episodes, easily worthy of top five status.
