Ranking Characters Of The Wire: The Law

14. Leander Sydnor

The Wire
HBO

Leander Sydnor was a dedicated police detective that had no political ambitious that influenced how he did his work. Committed to good policing, Sydnor would often find himself frustrated at the bureaucracy present in the Baltimore police department.

Close to Lester Freamon and Roland Pryzbylewski, Sydnor was a long standing member of the major crimes unit and related details, appearing in four out of the five seasons of the show. Despite his large appearance count, Sydnor primarily knuckled down and focused on the work at hand as opposed to the other detectives that were often tied up in other drama or potential corruption. This means he feels slightly underdeveloped compared to his colleagues but, he remains one of the most moral detectives on the show.

By the end, Sydnor begins to show similarities to McNulty as he visits Judge Phelan in an attempt to advance one of his investigations. Sydnor would rather put his own career in jeopardy if it means that a case will get the attention it deserves.
