Ranking Characters Of The Wire: The Streets
14. Slim Charles
Originally a soldier within the Barksdale organisation, Charles slowly moved around the various criminal enterprises working under Stringer, Avon and then Prop Joe. A prominent enforcer, by the end of the show Charles ascended in the ranks of the Co-Op and secures himself a senior position within the criminal hierarchy.
Calm and deliberate, Slim Charles was a cerebral presence on the show who rarely let his emotions get in the way of his decision making. Despite where he ended up, Charles never had any outward ambitions of taking over the crews he was working for, instead focusing on being a loyal soldier for whoever he worked for.
His large stature and deep gravelly voice made him easy to spot, and his cool demeanour also made him likable compared to the more bloodthirsty and aggressive members of the Co-Op. After losing three bosses, it felt strangely justified that Charles got the chance to avenge prop Joe in the series finale by killing Cheese.
