Ranking Every Superhero TV Show From Worst To Best
2. Daredevil
I'm going to guess a lot of people were expecting this to be number 1. It's a valid viewpoint, and admittedly was pretty close.
Daredevil is the series that launched the Netflix Marvel Universe (or whatever you choose to call that corner of the MCU), and without its instant success it may not have gotten this far.
There were doubts and uncertainty over what to expect prior to the show airing; Netflix and Marvel had both garnered reputations for quality, but the Daredevil IP was still tainted by the 2003 Ben Affleck movie.
The first episode went some way to banishing those, and completely killed them in the second, with one of the best fight scenes you'll see on the small screen. It's a level of action they've kept up throughout two seasons, while Charlie Cox has served as a great anchor, finding new depths for the character.
On top of that, it gave us Vincent D'Onofrio's brutal and nuanced take on Wilson Fisk, an incredibly sympathetic character for one so vicious and violent towards our hero. Season 2 gave us Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle, finally a take on the Punisher that managed to combine performance and material.
It doesn't quite manage to examine the broader themes that its stablemates do, and has moments where the show starts to sag despite its blistering nature - in particular with the Hand/Elektra stuff in Season 2, but there are periods of Season 1 where it feels like the series lacks urgency, and it can get a little self-indulgent at points.
On the whole, though, this is in incredible, violent, visceral, mature take on the superhero world, and stands as some of the best work Marvel have put on any screen.
