While he could be among the more annoying characters, a rewatch of Friends will reveal Ross to be arguably the show’s funniest creation, with Schwimmer always going to extra mile to wring every ounce of comedy out of the put upon scientist.

Since then, however, he has pursued a career primarily in dramas, with solid roles in The Iceman and Stephen Sodeberg’s The Laundrette. Even better was his role as Robert Kardashion in The People vs OJ Simpson - he fit in nicely among heavyweights like Sarah Paulson and Stirling K Brown.

That’s not to say Schwimmer’s given up the gags - he had a great recurring role in Curb Your Enthusiasm, and currently stars in Sky’s Intelligence, seeing him tread familiar turf as the authoritative Jerry Bernstein, another blustering smart Alek with a tendency to send himself up.

Schwimmer earns his spot in the top half of the list for his directorial efforts - he has several movies under his belt (none of them especially great, but still), and continues to step behind the camera on the small screen too - the renaissance man of Friends.
