1. Jennifer Aniston
For a little while, it seemed that Aniston would be an actress whose work was consistent, but whose projects were never top tier. As Friends wound down she found parts in big movies like Bruce Almighty and Along Came Polly, but her roles were often the thankless female leads, with little for her to get her teeth into while the Carreys and Stillers clowned around.
At the turn of the decade, though, something changed. Movies like Horrible Bosses, Office Christmas Party, and We’re The Millers gave her a far better showcase - they’re not classics, but Aniston shines in each. She became a collaborator of Adam Sandler’s, with surprisingly strong results (most notably Netflix movie Murder Mystery, a seriously charming film).
Best of all was her major return to TV: Apple’s The Morning Show. As co-lead Alex Levy she is career best, playing a news anchor worrying that her time in the spotlight is over. It’s a bold, often unsympathetic performance, and she’s nothing short of a revelation.
Aniston could well make a similar leap to that of her co-star Steve Carell and switch to prestige drama - off the back of her latest project, which she produces alongside former on screen sister Reese Witherspoon, she’s more than capable.
