Ranking The Best Classic Top Gear Specials Worst To Best
8. Burma Special
Once again, this special was somewhat marred by one of the hosts allegedly making a racist comment whilst building a bridge. Otherwise, it's a solid entry in the Top Gear specials.
A real long-distance challenge with trucks, though sometimes it is harder to like trucks than it is with usual cars in episodes like this, Top Gear pulled it off well.
Some of the episode was again filled with just too much obvious scripting and incidents that arise didn't always seem genuine, such as the horses required to go to another town to procure fuel. Though, this did end up with Hammond almost breaking his wrist when the horse bucked, which definitely wasn't a setup.
Apart from that, it was a well put together episode, which followed the theme of the film Bridge on the River Quai. The bridge-building at the end might be too much for some but it seemed like a real effort to do something a bit different.
This was one of the few Top Gear episodes that you feared for the pedestrians because at night it was made very clear that the boys just couldn't see them crossing the roads in front of them. Between Jeremy's sports truck and May's crane, the dialogue flow was great when it was at its most authentic.
Best Car (Truck): Jeremy's Sports Truck
