Ranking The Doctor Who Series Finales From Worst To Best

4. Army Of Ghosts & Doomsday (Series 2)

First broadcast: Saturday 1st July 2006 & Saturday 7th July 2006 Tissues at the ready, folks! The pit stop of our countdown takes us to the sorrowful shores of Bad Wolf Bay where the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler are bidding their tearful farewell. Well, their first one. The Series 2 finale was the battle to end them all when the might of Torchwood fell under the power of the Cybermen and Daleks who shared the screen for the first time in Doctor Who's history. If the sight of two of the franchise's most formidable adversaries coming head to head wasn't iconic enough, the long awaited story also marked the end of Rose's journey aboard the TARDIS as everybody's favourite shop girl turned Earth defender went out in flames of glory when she ended up becoming imprisoned forevermore in an alternative reality. She did have her family in tow, including a parallel version of the father she never knew, so it could've been a lot worse. Still, there wasn't a dry eye in the house when the Doctor burned up an entire sun just to say goodbye and Rose finally uttered the three words she'd been longing to say. And no, it wasn't "More chips, please". Their farewell scene is one of the defining moments of NuWho and is widely cited as one of the most most heartbreaking goodbyes in TV history. Quite right, too.
