Ranking The Major Buffy The Vampire Slayer Villains From Worst To Best

9. The First

After six seasons' worth of bad guys that Buffy could slap around with her super strength, The First felt like a breath of fresh air when it made its grand return in the final season.

A force of pure malice with no physical form, The First specialised in psychological torture and trickery to get under the skin of those who dared oppose it. Whilst not a threat in any physical sense, it could exert its influence over people in order to do its dirty work, and its lack of corporal form meant that Buffy couldn’t stop it with conventional weaponry.

Instead, she had to fend off the near-endless supply of followers it had at its disposal, and try to not allow herself and others to succumb to its insidious mind games. Capable of taking the form of any dead person, The First was able to infiltrate Buffy's home and spread fear and paranoia amongst her ranks, slowly whittling at their mental fortitude before its army of Bringers of Turok-Hans could move in for the kill.

Of all the foes that Buffy has faced in her time, The First is arguably the best from a purely conceptual standpoint.
