Having the honour of being the first-ever vampire we see in the show, Darla immediately made quite the impression when feastinging upon that poor young man's throat.

She was beautiful, deadly and took genuine pleasure in spreading fear and chaos, so much so that she'd often skip and dance around when moving in for the kill. She was the perfect early days adversary for Buffy in that she was very much the dark mirror image of the Slayer, even down to her sordid history with Angel that she often used as a weapon against Buffy.

And speaking of weapons, Darla must be commended for knowing the limits of her own abilities and pulling out firearms to try and take down Buffy, because let's face it, Slayers are strong, but they sure ain't bulletproof.

Despite being killed off midway through season one, Darla made subsequent appearances in later seasons through flashbacks which showed us the depth of her relationship with Angelus, Spike, and Drusilla. She proved herself to be every bit as cruel and callous as her companions, but always had enough of a spring in her step to stand apart from them.
