Ratched Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs

4. The Aesthetic

'Beautiful' isn't necessarily a word this writer thought he would use when discussing Ratched, but the truth is that, on the surface, that's exactly what the show is.

It's not really that surprising when you think about it. It is set during the Golden Age of Hollywood and, as Murphy has proven time and again, he has an incredible eye for recreating that feeling in his productions. He pulls it off all too well here, bringing us back to the late '40s in a stylistic experience full of classic music, ambitious fashion choices that would probably belong more on a catwalk than they do in this show and beautifully bright colours that burst off the screen more than they do in any of his previous productions.

Ratched feels like an old '50s horror movie in and of itself and that's all down to the absolutely wonderful aesthetic that it boasts.
