Ratched Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs
3. An Incredible Cast
If you've watched any of Ryan Murphy's previous work, you'll know that the man knows how to put together a star-studded cast. We've seen it in American Horror Story, The Politician and even through the multitude of guest stars to appear on Glee over the years. Ratched is no exception.
Paulson, of course, is a Murphy mainstay but to say only that wouldn't do her nearly enough justice. She's become a powerhouse of the small screen over the past decade so to see her topline this project is so rewarding. But she's surrounded by even more greats.
Judy Davis, Sharon Stone, Finn Wittrock and Vincent D'Onofrio are welcome presences and it's something special seeing them all square off with Paulson's Ratched at one point or another (even if some of their characters leave a little to be desired). The real star of the supporting cast, however, is Cynthia Nixon - who turns in such a nuanced performance as Gwendolyn Briggs that you can't help but be moved by her everytime she's on-screen.
