Red Dwarf: 11 Episodes That Never Made It To Air

1. Series 10 Episodes 5 & 6

If there had to be two words to describe the production of Series 10, they would probably be: smegging hell. The series struggled under a huge number of production problems, to the extent that only half of Dear Dave (Episode 5) was filmed on-set in front of a studio audience because the other half was still being written. But the biggest loss to Series 10 was the need to drop the original Episodes 5 and 6.

Planned as a two-part finale; these episodes would have focussed on reintroducing Kochanski after an absence of thirteen years, other than a cameo in Part 3 of Back To Earth. But, as the amount of location filming for Series 10 had to be drastically scaled back from a fortnight to a single day, the Kochanski episodes had to go because they featured the most location work.

Ultimately, the single day of location filming was allocated to Lemons (Episode 3), and Episodes 5 and 6 were replaced with the entirely studio-bound Dear Dave and The Beginning. Both of which were written by Doug Naylor in the space of just ten days. But with the rest of Series 11 still to go and Series 12 already filmed, we may not have seen the last of a certain navigation officer just yet.

Which of these unaired episodes do you wish had made it to screen? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
