Red Dwarf: 11 Episodes That Never Made It To Air

In the earlier stages of production on Series 1, Confidence And Paranoia (Episode 5) was the series finale and would have ended with Lister successfully bringing Kochanski back as a hologram. Closing the series-long story and character arc of Lister being in love with her and trying to find some way to bring her back, while at the same time setting her up as a lead character for Series 2.

But when Bodysnatcher was dropped, the episode order changed and Confidence And Paranoia became Episode 5. The ending was then altered so that Rimmer had hidden his own hologram personality disc in Kochanski’s box, leading into the new series finale Me2 where Rimmer moves in with a copy of himself. We would end up seeing Kochanski again in Series 2 and once more in Series 6 as a hallucination but it would be a full nine years before she joined the crew properly in Series 7, recast with Chloë Annett instead of Clare Grogan.
