Red Dwarf: 5 Best Episodes

1. Marooned €“ Series Three Episode Two

Another very small scale episode of Red Dwarf is Series Three€™s Marooned, an episode that sees Lister and Rimmer trapped on an ice planet awaiting rescue. That€™s the entire episode. And that€™s why it€™s my favourite. Instead of being full of flashy effects, bizarre monsters, and clever plot twists, it€™s just two people who have nothing in common being trapped together. There€™s some great interaction between Lister and Rimmer, you get a much deeper sense of the characters, and it€™s just incredibly funny. Almost every joke hits the mark perfectly from Lister eating dog food, to the reveal of the fate of Rimmer€™s treasured camphor wood trunk. It€™s got some of the series best dialogue and showed us that even though Red Dwarf was set three million years in the future, it could fit the brief of a traditional sitcom. Best Scene: The discussion about how Lister lost his virginity on a golf course at the age of twelve. Useless Trivia: Despite popular rumours, Craig Charles did not eat dog food while filming this episode. It was actually tuna that had mixed with meat jelly to look like dog food. Disagree with the list? Think I€™m a smeghead? Leave a comment...
