Red Dwarf: Every Series Ranked From Worst To Best

12. Series 11 & Series 12

Red Dwarf VIII
Dave

Series 11 and 12 very much belong together on this list. Not only were they filmed back to back, making them effectively one long series, but they have the same level of overall quality to them. This includes some frustrating shortcomings that fans had hoped the show would grow out of by now.

Episodes like Samsara and Can Of Worms continue series 10's worrying trend of relying on rehashes of old ideas in slightly new ways, and one of the funniest scenes in both series is a remake of the "Everybody's dead, Dave" scene from the first episode.

While the humour is as spot-on for its demographic as it ever was, some of the stories suffer from a problem that plagued the early series of the show. These seem to finish without a proper resolution or a rushed ending that has yet to conclude the tale, sometimes with a hail of bazookoid fire cutting down a creature they'd been running from for the meat of the episode.

Still funny, and the boys still shine as their characters (even Robert's Kryten make-up looks a lot less creepy than in series 10), but this is Dwarf by the numbers and it shows.

After hearing that you are what you eat, Mik took a good hard look at his diet and realised he might just be a szechuan spare rib alongside prawn fried rice.
