Red Dwarf: Every Series Ranked From Worst To Best

11. Smeg Ups

Red Dwarf VIII
BBC Worldwide

There was a trend in the 90s of American shows putting some of their bloopers at the end of episodes to show how much fun the cast had filming the episode. Red Dwarf took that one step further by releasing a video (later, DVD) of their bloopers called Smeg Ups.

By this time, the group was so tightly knit that they knew how to blow off steam and relieve tension in scenes. They knew how to play to the live studio audience and get them riled up for scenes in the show by joking around with each other and playing with the odd circumstances they were currently in.

Every one of the main characters was played by someone with a natural flair for comedy who had learned to play off each other so well that something as simple as make-up leaving a stain could be turned into something hilarious as they worked it into a scene, sometimes breaking the fourth wall and sometimes staying in character.

The full collection of Smeg Ups may not be a series of the show, but any ranking would be remiss if it didn't include them.

After hearing that you are what you eat, Mik took a good hard look at his diet and realised he might just be a szechuan spare rib alongside prawn fried rice.
