Red Dwarf Season 11: 6 Reasons To Be Excited

4. Holly?

One of the saddest things about the Red Dwarf "reboot" in 2009-2012 was the absence of Holly, Red Dwarf's dry one-liner spouting computer with the same IQ as 1000 PE teachers. Played by Norman Lovett (I, II, VII, VIII) and Hattie Hayridge (III, IV, V) respectively, Holly is one of the show's funniest and most likeable characters. Unfortunately, it seems that Lovett is well and truly out of the picture. He didn't wish to return for the new seasons, and may have burned his bridges with Naylor as a result. Hayridge hasn't been involved at all since V - in 1992! - and therefore seems just as unlikely to return. But really, if Naylor wants to improve on the slightly disjoined Series IX and X, he should bring at least one of the two performers back into the fold. They provided some of the show's best lines and episodes (Queeg!) and granted the ship that titles the show a voice and personality. Even though Series VI, which didn't feature either of them, is generally regarded as incredibly strong, it is telling that the majority of the weaker seasons are those that don't feature the computer at all. Hopefully Naylor and Lovett/Hayridge can resolve their differences, and Holly can return for Series XI.
