Only one scripted story has been discussed publicly to date, with Robert Llewelyn recently explaining that:
In one episode every member of the cast is a mechanoid. I dont know how or why whether its a Kryten dream or whatever the plot is but were all mechanoids. So everyone is having a mask made for them. Because they all said they wanted to do it and I think theyll all end up regretting it.
In other words, there will be an episode that contains four Krytens, played by each of the main cast members. It is safe to assume that they'll milk the premise for a full episode, as opposed to just a short "Kryten dream", as Dave is unlikely to blow its special effects budgets on a single sequence designed simply to please the cast members that wanted to have their own mechanoid masks. Nothing else is known about this episode - or any others - as yet. Will this be a funny storyline? Or is it a joke that will only work for those people forced to wear uncomfortable costumes? Fingers crossed that Naylor gets it right. One thing is for sure: there is potential in this idea, as it would be fascinating to see what the cast look like and behave like when dressed as mechanoids. Remember, though, that Lister has already temporarily been an android (human/robot hybrid) in the episode DNA, while Kryten became a human in the same storyline. Could this be very similar?
