Red Dwarf first aired on 15th of February 1988, almost 2 years before The Simpsons, and there was much talk about this being one last final hurrah for the longest-running sitcom of all time.

If that's true, then everyone can hold their heads high as it truly sends off the show on a high note. The movie not only answered the long-standing fate of the 2nd Ark of the cat people, but it delivered on a lot of the things fans wanted to see.

The characters all have a moment to shine, revealing some new aspects to them as well as ending a few long-standing arcs too. There isn't a single one who comes off as being left out and the narrative does a great job of ensuring everyone has some role to play in this last big adventure.

Allowing Lister and Rimmer to finally understand their complex relationship and share a tender moment felt like genuine acceptance from two characters that had been at each other's throats for decades.

It wraps up a lot of loose threads and connects back to the beginning of the series beautifully. If this truly is the end for the show then fans couldn't have asked for much better of a finale.
