Red Dwarf X: 10 Reasons To Be Excited

2. Lister vs. Rimmer

€œHolly: I brought Rimmer back because he's the best person to keep you sane. Lister: Rimmer? Holly: He's the person you knew best, over 14 million words in all. Lister: Holly -- seven million of those were me telling him to "Smeg Off!" and another seven million of those were him putting me on report for telling him to "Smeg Off!"...€
The best relationship in Red Dwarf is, bar none, Lister and Rimmer. Though both characters evolved over time, the relationship never really changed. From breeding mold named Albert to drive Rimmer nuts, urinating on him from the top of D deck, through pouring sexual magnetism virus down his back in a room full of hardened prisoners---Lister has always gotten a perverse amount of pleasure out of driving Rimmer nuts. The best parts of series VIII were the two of them, bunkmates once again with only each other to stay sane. It was the one part of the formula that couldn€™t be changed because Chris Barrie and Craig Charles have such chemistry and play off of each other so well that it€™s likely that they€™d have a similar chemistry in anything else they appear in together. Series VII never really recovered from Rimmer€™s absence, and that€™s why we€™re excited that series X is leaving the enduring pair where they should be.
