Is there anything more terrifying than your own pet turning against you? Stephen King wrote an entire book about it with Cujo, after all.

Rick and Morty's "The Lawnmower Dog" back in season one is a far cry from Cujo, of course. It's more about what happens when a supremely lazy pet owner relies on technology to take care of his pet for him. Rick gives Snuffles a little technological boost to improve communication, and thereby eliminate any accidents in the house.

Snuffles, however, evolves into the leader of a robo-dog civilization that soon has imprisoned humans, keeping them like pets - though he still has a soft spot for Morty.

Once upon a time, this concept was going to be an entire show from Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland. He pitched Dog World to Cartoon Network in the mid-2010s; when the show wound up stuck in development hell, Roiland recycled the theme for Rick and Morty. Literally. The theme to Dog World, centered on a boy named Peter and his family being sucked into a wormhole and coming out in a world ruled by dogs, went on to become Rick and Morty's theme song.

Getting back to Snuffles - "The Lawnmower Dog" is the same episode with Scary Terry. But it's the family pet who makes the better villain before he finally leaves Earth for a world "where pet insurance is mandatory."
