Rick And Morty: All Season 1 Episodes Ranked
10. Rixty Minutes
While Rick and Morty can generally be described as entertaining, thought-provoking, and fun, Rixty Minutes in itself is more accurately described as cheap, repetitive and unentertaining. The concept of Interdimensional Cable was unfortunately introduced in this episode.
Don't let the word "Interdimensional" hoodwink you into thinking that there is some epic sci-fi adventure of the kind the show is so renowned for. It is plain for anyone to see that Interdimensional Cable is a plot device relying on formulaic elements to create an exceptionally dull filler episode.
While most episodes deal with family tensions (in fairness, there is a fair amount of this in Rixty Minutes) and intergalactic escapades, here we see nothing more than the family staying home and tuning into some zany, wacky TV channels from other dimensions. For the first few minutes, it's entertaining to watch some very random interdimensional TV shows (for example, a murder mystery show in a universe where humanity evolved from corn, an advertisement for "Real Fake Doors", and a plethora of other things which the creators seem to have come up with off the tops of their minds), but it loses its novelty very soon.
The formulaic nature of Rixty Minutes makes it very easy to produce compared to the complex and witty episodes which require a great deal of thought and effort. It is perhaps for this reason that Season 2 contained yet another Interdimensional Cable episode, and that Season 3 introduced a similar concept with Morty's Mind Blowers.
