Rick And Morty: All Season 2 Episodes Ranked

9. Auto Erotic Assimilation

We wanted to put Auto Erotic Assimilation higher up on the list. Really, we did.

But the unfortunate reality is - while the episode has some brilliant and philosophical themes, and develops Rick as a character arguably more than any other season 2 episode, presenting an intimate portrait of him in his most emotional moments - it's just not as entertaining as the following eight.

The plot sees Rick, Morty and Summer encounter Rick's ex, Unity, while soaring around in space. Unity has the ability to "assimilate" entire civilisations, giving her absolute, puppeteer-like control over each individual.

Rick and Unity spend time together (we see Rick at his most human ever here) but the latter eventually leaves, leaving Rick to resume his role as the depressed alcoholic, even considering suicide.

In spite of the excellent character moments, Auto Erotic Assimilation simply isn't engaging enough for a place higher up on the list.
