Rick And Morty Season 3: Every Episode Ranked From Worst To Best

3. The Rickshank Redemption

Airing on April Fool’s day with little to no announcement, The Rickshank Redemption was an excellent opening episode for season 3. It neatly wrapped up the loose ends from the prior season’s conclusion, while simultaneously setting up the character arcs and storylines for the journey ahead – even if we haven’t heard about Rick’s love for Szechuan sauce or from Phoenix-Person and Tammy ever since.

Rick outsmarting and destroying all the other Ricks and the Galactic government was as satisfying as understanding one of the show’s subtler jokes and feeling smart about it. But, while bloodshed from people who have families is always a good thing in any show, the best parts of the episode was the character progression.

Morty became almost like the older brother with how he wanted to protect Summer from the trauma and overwhelming emotions which come with having Rick in your life, and Jerry and Beth finally had the ‘we’re getting a divorce’ conversation after Jerry made the inevitable ‘it’s either me or him’ ultimatum.

With badass combat, character progression and a look at the dimension Rick left behind after turning everyone into Cronenburg monsters, The Rickshank Redemption is undoubtedly the best opening episode of the show’s three seasons.
