Rick & Morty: 10 Essential Episodes EVERY Fan Should See
9. The Wedding Squanchers
This episode is an absolute doozy from start to finish and there's so much to talk about that it feels like a genuine disservice that some things are going to have to be left out.
Just like most other Rick and Morty episodes, the premise is simple whereas the execution is anything but! After Rick and family are invited to the wedding of Rick's best friend (BirdPerson) on a faraway planet and after a bit of forceful convincing from his daughter, Rick reluctantly heads out to see just how the shambles will unfold.
What he doesn't count on is the fact that his family are complete and utter embarrassments - especially Jerry with his disturbing anecdotes and painful jokes - but instead of not monitoring his family, he should've focused on the personnel in the room.
The wedding goes awry as the bride to be turned out to be the proprietor of an ambush and soon after the Sanchez/Smith family are the most wanted individuals in the universe. They also let Earth become enslaved, forcing them to relocate elsewhere.
After careful consideration and what we can only assume is respect for his family, Rick gives himself up and an unexpectedly surprising manifestation of sadness fills the screen as Nine Inch Nails' Hurt plays over a strangely sombre scene that seems out of place, but which perfectly encapsulates the direness of the situation
