7. He Wasted His Portal Gun Charge
At the start of season one of Rick and Morty, Rick was very focused on his scientific research. To help with what he was trying to achieve, he took his grandson to find some Mega Seeds, a valuable natural resource that would have been invaluable to him.
While on this adventure, Morty broke both of his legs. Rick used his portal gun to travel to a future dimension where medical technology was so advanced that they had broken leg serum at every drug store. However, they were so advanced that they had halted the aging process, rendering Rick something of a medical and scientific marvel.
Instead of going back to Morty straight away, Rick spent a lot of time with the beautiful women that were interested in him, and subsequently wasted all of the charge on his portal gun. This left the titular duo the sole option of getting the illegal Mega Seeds home through intergalactic customs.
This was a decision from Rick that landed both he and his grandson in a lot of trouble, and very nearly killed them both. Surely he should have known how much charge he had, he could have taken the seeds back home and then instantly returned to future dimension literally at any time he wanted.
