Let's not forget about Stephen Merchant, co-writer of Gervais's biggest hits, and fellow star of Extras, where he plays useless agent Darren Lamb. Merchant is as much the star of Extras as Gervais - more so some may argue; Andy's the straight man of the duo - and this moment from the final episode of the first series is one that showcases the genius of the pair. Time and time again, Darren's let Andy down, and when Andy goes to visit him this time, it's a bit of a shock to find him... with Barry's special pen. The look of despair on Andy's face is the perfect antithesis to Darren claiming, "It's like bloody Piccadilly Circus in here... if you leave your erotic material in here, I'm only going to do one thing." It's a duo that perhaps peaks in this scene, as the pair of them barely have to say anything to convey their brilliant chemistry. It only becomes funnier when Darren gives the pen to Robert De Niro of all people. What a way to start a conversation with the man: "Here, you're a man of the world..."
