David Brent is a man of the world, a man who sees himself as a friend to all. So when a Photoshopped image of Brent as woman in a sexual act is sent around the office, Brent hates it. Why? Because it's sexist to women. Of course. The original moment when he finds out is hilarious, as everyone raises their hand to have seen it. "You don't even have email, Joan!" he tells the cleaner; everyone again raises their hand to printing Joan a copy. It's only when David's talking to the cameras with Gareth though when the real comedy gold happens; they both elaborate about how much they hate sexism, quoting the great philosopher Chris Finch - "How can I hate women? My mum's one" - and conducting a web search that returns the result, "Dutch women should be punished for having big boobs". "If anything, they should be rewarded," Gareth claims. "They should be equal," David quickly corrects. It's the nuances of the scene that make it, from Brent quietly assuming authority over Gareth - "One of the cleverest blokes I know: certainly the cleverest you know..." - to Brent trying to appear gender equal, only to tell everyone, "Women are filthy". Just one example of an over-the-top character trying to overcompensate in an embarrassing situation.
