One of the more light-hearted quips of the evening, Ricky Gervais went after one of the greatest living directors. In fact, that's just what he called him before making fun of his height. A compliment safety net if you will. And look, at least it wasn't another joke about his eyebrows!
Martin Scorsese has had a busy year finishing and basking in the triumph of The Irishman, but he also received a lot of attention for his comments on Marvel and superhero films. "He said they're not real cinema and they remind him of theme parks," Gervais observed. "I agree. Although I don't know what he's doing hanging around theme parks; he's not big enough to go on the rides."
Panning to the table, Scorsese's long-time friend and collaborator Robert De Niro clearly saw the funny side to it, laughing at the expense of his pal whilst Scorsese nodded along in humourous agreement.
