Ricky Gervais Has Been Asked Back To Host Golden Globes Next Year

Digital Spy report that Ricky Gervais has surprisingly been asked to return and host the Golden Globes next year in spite of the recent controversy that spiraled out of his second hosting stint last month. Most had considered that the displeasure shown from members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the jibes they received from Gervais, who they claim crossed the line with some of his edgy material, would make a return for the comedian impossible. Of course cash prevails over any moral discrepancies and Gervais once again helped the broadcast achieve higher ratings and at least make the insignificant and inferior awards show newsworthy and somewhat cool, which it hasn't been for a very long time. Clearly the HFPA must have cottoned on to the fact that no-one really takes their actual awards ceremony too seriously especially when they nominate such duff films in the comedic/musical categories and are by no means a reliable precursor for Oscar success. Maybe they realise that the future vision of the Golden Globes is of an annual comedic roast with the awards taking a back-seat to the entertainment. Obviously a fearless comedian like Ricky Gervais would be the perfect model for this future goal. Although Gervais was bad-mouthed in the press for days after his performance, a number of celebrities seemed to enjoy his banter and he managed to give the event some much needed publicity. Publically however, Ricky is not too sure about returning to the ceremony however. Writing in Heat magazine he said that:
"I don't know what I could do better. I certainly couldn't get more press for them, that's for sure. The response was staggering. It was discussed on every news channel and chatshow for weeks."
It is a common trait amongst stand-up comedians to leave on top whilst the audience are still laughing and to not ruin or tarnish momentum by trying to maintain the energy of the crowd. Thirteen episodes of two popular sitcoms that could have easily kept on running is proof that Gervais is not a man who likes to outstay his welcome and if he thinks that he couldn't top the buzz he created this year then I doubt he would want to return. In regards to the controversy caused Gervais remains adamant that he did nothing wrong. In his recent interview with Piers Morgan he firmly stated that if rich, talented and handsome celebrities can't laugh about themselves then all those other fine attributes are wasted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flBFagW5vC8

"Growing up, Laurent was such an ardent fan of wrestling superstar Stone Cold Steve Austin that he actually attempted to send the Texas Rattlesnake a letter demanding that he defeat arch-nemesis The Rock at Wrestlemania 15. Oh hell yeah, it was all still very real to him back then dammit.
