Riverdale Season 3: 2 Ups & 4 Downs From 'Prom Night'
2. The Black Hood's Return
The idea that somebody in the Riverdale writers room jumped up and said "I know! Let's bring back the Black Hood!" is nothing short of terrifying but, if we can take anything away from the character's return, it proves that the writers are totally oblivious to what's going on in the real world.
The Black Hood was, of course, the murderous Big Bad of the not-so-beloved second season and, after a truckload of plot armour, eventually revealed himself to be Betty's father Hal.
While it was unlikely that Hal died off-screen in the recent prison transfer crash, his supposed return as the Black Hood is all kinds of wrong. It's not even the return that's the problem, it's how he returned.
Why is he suddenly trying to kill Betty? Why wouldn't he have said a single word (or is he under the Kevin and Fangs no-speaking contract too?)? Most importantly of all, why is he working with the Gargoyle King? Does this supposedly supernatural force have some kind of murderers code where it doesn't target other murderers?
While it is looking likely that this isn't actually Hal, there is no universe, timeline or season where we needed to see the Black Hood return with a hook for a hand. None.
