Riverdale Season 3: 3 Ups & 4 Downs From 'The Dark Secret Of Harvest House'

3. Betty Tells Everyone Everything

Riverdale Betty Cooper

Since the very beginning of Riverdale, Betty Cooper has been hailed the show's answer to Nancy Drew - and for good reason. In fact, as she has proven time and again, Riverdale would function a lot better if everyone just listened to her and Jughead - but unfortunately, we're not talking about logical characters here.

Speaking of illogical, Betty herself started behaving a little out-of-character in this week's episode as, with each little piece of information she discovered about The Farm, she decided to inform those around her (whom she knew were all brainwashed).

As we've seen on many occasions, the institution allows its members to have some semblance of a real life and thus, they can come and go as they please. With that in mind, couldn't Betty have just left the building and went to Sheriff Jones (who would have absolutely listened to her because he's her boyfriend's father!) and told him about the surgeries, hypnosis and organ harvesting?

That would have been the logical Betty-like thing to do, but in order to put her in a situation where she would have to go under Edgar's knife, the writers needed her to get caught. The only problem is that they had to alter Betty's character to make it happen and, as a result, she went around telling these incriminating details to everyone who had already ignored her in the past to pledge allegiance to The Farm. What did she think was going to happen this time?

This wasn't the cunning and calculating Nancy Drew-inspired Betty Cooper that we know and love, this was a plot convenience.
