Riverdale Season 3: 4 Ups & 6 Downs From 'Fear The Reaper'

2. One Big Wasted Opportunity

Riverdale Alice Cooper Edgar Evelyn Evernever

Betty's discovery that Evelyn Evernever wasn't actually Edgar's daughter and was, in fact, his wife, was admittedly very good. No, it was brilliant.

Not only was it an unforeseen swerve in the narrative, it was the exact kind of creepy stuff that Betty needed to prove that The Farm was nothing more than a glorified cult. Finally, we had a breakthrough.

Unfortunately, Betty would then reveal that information to a room full of people, including her mother who was due to marry Edgar only for them to pull the same "Oh Betty, you think we didn't already know that?" rubbish that we've been fed all season.

Seriously, what was the point of this whole episode? Betty spent the duration of it finally uncovering evidence worth using, only for it to culminate in the same fashion as all of the previous times.

How much more digging does she have to do before something logical actually sticks? And no, that question isn't meant in an "OMG we're on the edges of our seats here" kind of way, it's meant in more of a "when are these characters going to start behaving like actual people?" way.

What started out as a refreshing twist just turned into another wasted opportunity.

Speaking of which...
