Riverdale Season 3: 9 Theories On The Gargoyle King's True Identity
1. Dr. Curdle Jr.
For years, Alice Cooper relied on Riverdale's coroner, Dr. Curdle, for information about any suspicious deaths, before her daughter Betty began to do the same. However, at the beginning of this season, we learned that Dr. Curdle had quietly passed away and had been replaced by his son, Dr. Curdle Jr. Since then, the latter has done nothing but assist Betty, recite creepy cliché lines and relay necessary information to the viewers.
With that in mind, its leaves fans wondering as to why the writers felt the need to replace Dr. Curdle with his own son when the character was literally going to be a carbon copy of the original. As of yet, the change is meaningless, but could that be about to change? Is Dr. Curdle Jr. there for a reason?
One interesting theory put forward by the Riverdale fandom suggests that Dr. Curdle may have been the original Gargoyle King who tortured the Midnight Club back in the day and that his son has since taken over the mantle. If true, this would definitely explain his quiet introduction and, to be quite honest, he is definitely creepy enough to be behind such a thing.
Maybe all those cliché one-liners were for a reason, after all.
